The assertion that "your friends on Social Media will NOT affect your security clearance" is false. In the context of security clearances, a person’s social media presence and associations can significantly impact their evaluation. When applying for a security clearance, individuals are subjected to thorough background checks that examine not only their personal and professional history but also their online behavior and connections.

The rationale behind this scrutiny is that an individual's social media connections can reflect their character, judgment, and potential vulnerabilities. For instance, associations with individuals who engage in illegal activities or harmful ideologies can raise concerns about loyalty, trustworthiness, and reliability, which are crucial factors in determining one's eligibility for a security clearance.

Therefore, it is essential to be aware that the content and connections on social media do contribute to the overall assessment of a candidate's security clearance eligibility, confirming that the correct understanding is that social media friends can indeed impact security clearances.
